General Consultation Information

First and foremost, it makes you a better EMDR therapist.

Discussing cases with a consultant helps provide development of your EMDR practice. It is meant to be both supportive and challenging.

It also protects the client. It helps to reduce the risk of oversight by helping the EMDR therapist to reflect on their own feelings, thoughts, adherence to the protocol and general approach with the client.

  • Mixed format is an option for groups or dyads.

Consultation can be provided across state and country boundaries as it is not supervision and is not a patient-client relationship.

Individual Consultation may be provided in the following lengths: 30, 45, 60, 75, and 90 minutes. These may be scheduled as needed or on a recurring basis. The length would be agreed upon at the time of scheduling.

Individual consultation has the benefit of solely focusing on the individual’s needs and cases, which can provide significant opportunities for growth.

Group consultation provides many of the benefits of individual consultation and additionally gives consultees the experience of sharing and learning from the variety of cases and experiences presented. Confidence and competency can increase when discussing work with colleagues. Group consultation also provides an opportunity to observe oneself in relation to others.

Groups must have a minimum of 4 people and are done on an agreed upon recurring basis (typically monthly). Each group member receives time for case consultation, and participants are encouraged to provide feedback to each other and discuss with each other during other participants’ cases. Group length depends on the number of participants in the group. Additional groups will be added when there are enough people to start a new group to fill the minimum participant requirements. Andrea will create waiting lists for this purpose.

All efforts are made to create groups based on the level of training and practice so that everyone can get something out of the whole experience.

Ready to start? Inquire about groups or get on a waiting list for a new group now, by contacting Andrea!

Note: if you are obtaining required consultation hours for a specific process, please check the regulations regarding group vs. individual consultation hours.
