What is EMDRIA?

and other EMDR organizations

EMDR International Association

According to the EMDRIA website, the mission is: “The EMDR International Association (EMDRIA) is a membership organization of mental health professionals dedicated to the highest standards of excellence and integrity in EMDR therapy.”

Some of the Values included on the webpage include:

  • Promotion of EMDR therapy
  • Integrity, professionalism, & ethics
  • Service
  • Inclusivity, diversity, and cultural competence,
  • Change

EMDRIA is a membership organization which provides various benefits, including access to the online therapy directory, EMDR resources (Research journals, EMDRIA magazine, monthly e-news), networking through online and local communities, professional development, and  discounted products and services.

EMDRIA created the EMDR Certification and the Consultant approval process. Please note that membership is not the same as Certification. Certification is an advanced process, only offered through EMDRIA, which is an option after completion of basic EMDR training. EMDRIA also approves providers for both the basic training providers and the advanced training in EMDR for continuing education credits.

Other highly regarded EMDR groups:

Midwest Center for EMDR Training:

This is the training that I am currently affiliated with. This training was founded by:

Susan Schaefer, PhD, LP Sue Evans, MA, LP.

Both of these phenomenal trainers have been mentors and consultants of mine throughout my career. Sue Evans has since passed away, but her spirit lives on in the training. Susan Schaefer continues on as the curriculum provider and advisor to the training. Patti Miller, MA, LP has since taken on a co-ownership role in the training.

Trauma Recovery/EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Program (HAP):

A non-profit organization, that also provides basic EMDR training. This organization has goals to support communities in times of crisis.
